Assistant Buyer

Your new role

The Assistant Buyer  will play a key role in assisting the Buying Manager in the sourcing and development of our dynamic product range, ensuring deadlines are met relating to new range launch and their associated administration, preparing analysis ahead of trade and strategy meetings and assisting with business development projects . They will be able to use their passion for furniture to develop a keen and commercial eye for product and working alongside the Buying Manager, will have specific range responsibility in determining which products should be in the range for their area of remit.

A day in the life of...

  • Liaise with suppliers in the UK, Far East and Europe on a day to day basis to ensure we have all relevant information.

  • Executing administration with a high degree of accuracy and at pace.

  • Monitor the product life cycle ensuring the Buying Administrators and suppliers are on track with development, sampling, administration for product launch.

  • Manage PDS implementation and completion.

  • Build strong relationships internally with all key departments.

  • Perform market analysis and competitor shops to ensure we have the best range in the market and are first to market with emerging trends.

  • Ensure we have a fantastic range of products for the area of specific Buying remit which suit our customer profile.

  • Preparing sales analysis reports including recommendations to enhance trade.

  • Suggest and implement process improvements sharing best practice across the business for continuous improvement.

  • Store and supplier visits when required.

In an ideal world...

  • Great attention to detail is an absolute must.
  •  At least 3 years' experience of working within a multiple retailer in the furniture or home sector.

  •  Passionate about product.

  •  Methodical and analytical mindset.

  •  Strong IT skills – Excel, Word, PowerPoint.

  •  Ability to multi-task and deliver to very strict deadlines.

  •  Positive attitude with a great willingness to learn.

  •  A self-starter who is creative and innovative at problem-solving skills.

  •  Professional, bright and focused.

  •  Enjoy working in a really fast paced environment where no 2 days are the same. 

  • Strong understanding of retail process.

  • Influencing, coaching and relationship building skills.
