Head of Operations - Warehouse and Distribution

Your new role

At Sofa Delivery Company we are relentless about our customer experience and the Head of CDC Operations (North) has full accountability for supporting us in our strategy of being the best 2 person delivery service.  

The Sofa Delivery company is proud to deliver as dedicated two person delivery teams, completing the customer journey with a moment that matters. The brands we deliver for are; DFS, Sofology, Dwell and SofaWorkshop. 

The role will be a mix of working from your customer distribution centres and from home, you manager your own diary. So what works for you, works for us. 

You will lead your team of around 15 operations to ensure we achieve our commitments in line with agreed SLAs to ensure optimum revenue performance. 

A day in the life of...

Think Customer

  • Responsibility of c.£500m worth of customer deliveries

  • Ensure the operational teams put the customer at the heart of everything they do 

  • To continually improve operational effectiveness and driving performance improvement activities across your region which will deliver better service to our customers or allow us to operate in a more efficient way. 

  • Lead the Regional and CDC Managers to ensure successful delivery of all customer orders in line with all SLAs which have been agreed with our external customers.

  • Review financial performance on a regular basis and ensure clear action plans are in place to drive continuous improvement in the CDC’s.

 

Aim High

  • Accountability for the health, safety and welfare of our colleagues within your region by continuously striving to ensure our locations are a safe place to work.

  • Work collaboratively with the Operations Director and Head of Development to ensure our service offer and operational capability are world class in all that they do.

  • To provide strong leadership and direction to both your Regional and CDC Managers  through clear communication, objective setting and performance management

  • Support, coach and develop the Regional and CDC Managers in your region with both technical and leadership skills.

  • To ensure your region has the correct, skilled resource to meet both operational and customer needs by having a live talent succession plan in place.

  • To positively deliver key operational change activity by engaging and motivating Regional Management teams to understand business need and benefits.

  • Shared accountability with Operations Director for c.£25m cost management budget and ensure supply chain elements under the role’s control are delivered within that budget, including but not limited to overtime, agency and delivery partner spend. 

  • Continuous focus on colleague engagement to drive greater performance and champion diversity in the workplace.

 

Be Real

  • Operational visible FED style leadership of the team c.600 collegaues

  • Building big relationships within retail, buying, merchandising, finance and audit functions across the group to drive performance improvement opportunities.

  • To be instrumental in financial budgeting, forecasting and planning for your region; in-year performance tracking – responsible for identifying variance, developing and delivering resolution solutions.

  • Extensive leadership experience and proven track record of successful leadership of large teams, with the ability to inspire and develop high performance.

  • Able to communicate and influence effectively, with every level of the business, building cross functional working relationships.

  • Displays an outgoing, self motivated, goal orientated approach and demonstrates the ability to work under pressure

  • Has a comprehensive understanding of logistics operations and processes

  • Demonstrates good analytical skills with strong attention to detail

  • Demonstrates excellent leadership skills and is responsive to the needs of others

  • Identifies the root cause of problems and implements appropriate actions to resolve

  • Is a team player that supports colleagues to achieve their objectives through sharing best practice, knowledge and resource

  • A hands on and positive can do attitude.

  • Health and safety knowledge and experience in a supply chain environment.
