Warehouse and Distribution Manager

Your new role

To oversee the safe operation of the Depot Warehouse and Transport Operations to ensure the customer requirements are met, efficient management of resources to maintain a high level of customer service. In addition, provide leadership, training and supervision to the Depot team to maintain and improve the safe operation and performance of the Depot.

 

A day in the life of...

Effectively and proactively manage the depot to ensure that accurate and prompt deliveries can be made to the internal and external customer

Accurately and proactively plan your teams’ work to achieve the overall department and company objectives informing the Head of Operations of shortfalls in personnel or equipment in a timely manner

Carry out performance management and quality control audits to assess the capability of team members in ensuring that processes & procedures are accurately followed

Identify under-performing employees/areas and proactively address them to achieve company targets

Maintain all vehicles; Manage service, MOT and inspection schedules ensuring all relevant work is carried out to comply with legal requirements

Arrange (where required) sufficient additional personnel support, vehicles and associated insurance cover to fulfil all day to day deliveries

Effectively manage all repairs to vehicles whilst adhering to all of the company’s policies and procedures

Carry out random checks to vehicles and installation team members, ensuring all legal and company policies/procedures are complied with

Review and evaluate current warehousing and transport procedures and relay any possible changes back to the Head of Operations

Build and maintain an excellent up-to-date working knowledge of all products, services and stock control systems

Provide training to all company and authorised third parties on the company policies and procedures

Carry out training with all employees that require additional skills or knowledge where appropriate

Gain and maintain up-to-date knowledge of all legal transportation processes/procedures and best practices

Produce and implement new policies and procedures to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of the depot

Carry out the recruitment/training and performance management of employees allocated to the depot

Attend and participate in Operations meetings when requested

Complete all paperwork within set deadlines and to company standards

Proactively plan the movement of all stock within the logistic environment

Recommend and implement cost saving initiatives in line with company morals and ethics

Comply with all Health & Safety guidelines and act as the nominated Health and Safety person for the depot

Undertake any other reasonable tasks and duties as directed by your line manager

In an ideal world...

The ideal Depot Manager will have experience within all of the main multiples of the role, ideally gained in a retail environment. Demonstrable experience of managing people at operational level within a warehousing/transport environment is essential. They should have a proven track record in managing a team to a high performance, experience in customer service and working towards KPIs.
